How are you liking CARRIE so far? At this point, you're at the mid point, having finished Part One of Stephen King's debut novel.
I'm going to post some questions for discussion below, but first....
OMG FAN ART!
And now, for some questions!
- 1. How do you feel about the portrayal of girls and women in this book?
- 2. In some ways, CARRIE is a story about bullying. Do you think that King did a good job with this topic? Why or why not?
- 3. CARRIE is a hugely popular novel, and several movies have been made based on this book. So far, is it what you expected it to be? Or different?
- 4. If you've read some other books by Stephen King, how do you think CARRIE, as his first novel, compares?
Don't forget, we've got PRIZES!
As usual, we've got some fantastic prizes to give away to the top participant this month. Thanks so much to Sourcebooks and Egmont USA! We're going to give a copy of THE GIRL FROM THE WELL by Rin Chupeco (as well as a creepy ghost doll, made by the author) as well as a copy of AMITY by Micol Ostow to the top participant. One each of these prizes will go in the prize vault, which will be given away to the top participant for the first 6months at the end of this year.
How do you get participation points? Make awesome comments on these journals! Participate in the end of month chat and make meaningful contributions to the discussion! You can also write a critical review (uploaded as a lit deviation) or fanart, note CRLiterature about it, and get points for these as well. The team is keeping track of who's doing what, and we're so excited to see everyone's enthusiasm!
THE WINNER OF LAST MONTH'S TOP PARTICIPANT PRIZE IS: SilverInkblot! Congrats! SilverInkblot wins a copy of WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN by Kristin Rae, courtesy of Bloomsbury USA Children's.
Thanks so much for participating!
We'll see you at the end-of-the-month chat on August 31st at 12pm PST. What time is that for me? The chat takes place in the #CRLiterature chat room, and many of the CRLiterature admins will be there! We hope you'll be there, too, to discuss this super spooky book!
And, in case you finished already, you can always start on next month's book! In September we'll be switching it up, reading the contemporary YA novel THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER by Stephen Chbosky. This book is often banned and challenged, and since September is Banned Books Month, we wanted to read something "naughty" with y'all! LionesseRampant will be the book club leader for the month. Huzzah!
